Locks & Tunnels challenge

canal

Young people at Rushmere are expected to take responsibility and that includes responsibility for a 12 tonne Narrowboat.

We travel south from Blisworth through the tunnel to Stoke Bruerne where we negotiate several locks (usually with a large audience of sightseers and young school children).
Once you have a windlass in your hands (you must not put it down even for a second) you will be operating the locks and allowing your boat and others to pass through.

If you’re really lucky you’ll find your lunch on the way and be able to cook it in the galley.
The day is completed by cleaning the inside of the boat and returning it safely to Blisworth again through the long tunnel.
